Elwood
Elwood was my first GSD, he came from Battersea dogs home, I got him when he was 3 and a half, he looked so sad, with a funny look in his eyes, I felt so sorry for him as his owners had given him to the home the day before, so I took him home!
He settled in really well, however a month later I saw that look again when he had his first fit, he was diagnosed with epilepsy and was on medication for the rest of his life.
He was always a "sicky" dog, suffering from epilepsy, skin conditions and tumours he also slipped 2 discs in his spine resulting in a major operation to remove 7 discs in total.
I made the decision to end his suffering at only 8 and a half years old following an exploritory operation which found he was suffering from Cancer in his spleen, which had spread to his liver.
It came as a shock as he had always recovered before, he died on Good Friday and on Easter Monday Polly arrived.............

Fizz
      Xenmur Allicia.

Fizz came to me as I whelped a litter for Keith Burgess (Xenmur GSD's) who owns Jasmines half sister Shalidora Nathalie, who was mated to Conquell Lymer, seeing that Jasmine has decided motherhood is not for her, I decided to keep one of this litter.
Fizz was lovely, a very promising puppy, with really rich black and red colouring.
However to my absolute horror, she had an accute rhythmic heart attack at the tender age of just 6 months. She was already booked into several shows, awaiting the dates with great anticipation, unfortunately she never made them.
Fizz was a great loss to me and this page goes out in her memory.
Barney
Barney was given to me by someone who knew I had German Shepherds and needed a new home for him. He was part German bred, by a local breeder who recognised him the first time she saw him at a local show.
Barney only did a few shows as he didn't really enjoy it, but he did get a best in show!!
His obedience never really materialised into much either, but he still was a lovely dog.

Max
Max came from the Vigile GSD Rescue, a few weeks after Polly as my partner wanted a dog to do obedience with, as by this time Polly was already impressing everyone! He did quite well, but I think those huge big long legs he had hindered him somewhat in his movement and closeness.
He was a cheeky dog, who used to nip every visitors backside as soon as they were not looking then he would high tail it out of there as far away as possible!!
Zenna
Zenna was another Battersea dog, following Elwood a year later, I desperately wanted another Shepherd but preferably an older one. The home advised us she was about 7 years old and had not been spayed, so if I had her I would have to have this done.
Of course I came home with her and Zenna settled in perfectly with everyone.

We took her to the vets to arrange spaying and got the first shock, the vet told us she was nearer 2 than 7!! Never mind I thought she was ours now. Next day of to the vets for the op!! Later in the day i received a phone call from the vets, telling us that they had searched and searched for her bits to no avail - she had already been spayed!!
Oh well poor dog, we must tell Battersea.
A week later Battersea called me to ask how our 2 year old, spayed Doberman was settling in!!!!!
After an enquiry, it was found that 2 dogs had come in on the same day and the records had got mixed up, apologies from them and Zenna stayed with me until her death at the age of 9 or was that 14???
Lady
Lady was a cross GSD who came from Battersea Dogs Home.
My Mum went along with one of her friends who wanted a GSD, my Mums friend chose the last puppy from a litter they had there. The mum of these puppies was Lady and she was going to be put to sleep as they had not found her a home after having the puppies.
I think I inherited my love for waifs and strays from my Mum!!!

Anyway Mum bought Lady home. That night Lady would not let my Dad in the house, he was horrified but my Sister and I were thrilled.
Lady was great, she allowed us to do anything with her, dress her up, play horses with her, brush and walk her as much as we liked! When she died Mum said "No more dogs"!! But I won and just before I got my own house and dogs, I bought for her a little Yorkshire Terrier puppy, Rowley, who became best friends with my dog Elwood and later Polly.
